Some 10 years after the concept was envisioned, the Phoenix Group celebrated its grand opening on Oct. 16 in Palm Coast.

Abundant Life Ministries-Hope House Inc., the parent company of the Phoenix Group, opened its Hope House doors as a teen boys residential home in 2003 with Sandra Shank at the helm. By 2009, when Hope House was bursting at the seams with boys who needed group care placement within the foster care system, Shank began dreaming of a way to keep families together rather than growing the capacity of the facility. She knew in order to accomplish that goal, the entire family would need care, therapy and medical treatment individually and as a unit.

Sandra and her team spent the next decade moving her concept from dream to reality. “As long as there is breath, there is hope” is the belief that kept her going.

“Suddenly, the doors swung wide open in the last 18 months,” Shank said in a press release. By 2019, she and her team had received all the approvals for Phoenix Community Services and then, in 2020, came the approvals for Phoenix Primary Care.

The community contributed, as well. AdventHealth, Putnam County Free Clinic, the Flagler County Health Department, and the Rotary Club of Flagler Beach all pitched in to help provide supplies and equipment for the facility.

Shank’s vision has become a comprehensive health and wellness group that will “Serve Humanity With Love." The opening of Phoenix Community Services and Phoenix Primary Care will enable this group to offer a continuum of behavioral health and primary care for the uninsured and underinsured in Flagler County.

Phoenix Group services will include:

  • Individual Therapy for Children and Adults
  • Family Therapy
  • Couples Therapy
  • Addictions Counseling and Groups
  • Family Medicine
  • Telehealth
  • Acute Disease Management
  • Chronic Disease Management
  • Prevention Screening

  • Geriatrics
