Flagler County has put on hold until further notice the final 825 feet of sidewalk reconstruction along Colbert Lane, as a housing developer plans work on the roadway between State Road 100 and Roberts Road.
“We don’t want to improve the sidewalk there if it is ultimately going to be moved to accommodate a turning lane,” said Road and Bridge Manager Ryan Prevatt. “We’ve completed most of the sidewalk – about 77% of the total 3,300 feet – but we don’t want to spend money on concrete and staff time to do the work if it will be removed for construction."
Road and Bridge began sidewalk reconstruction work north of the Grand Haven community early in October. Crews removed areas of damaged sidewalk, re-framed those sections, and finished the concrete work. To date, about $41,500 has been spent on materials for the project that is estimated to cost $53,600.
In addition, sidewalk crews have replaced about 100 feet of damaged sidewalk on Roberts Road, and another 100 feet along MalaCompra Road.
“At this time, the sidewalks on both of these roads have had the areas in need of immediate attention addressed,” Prevatt said. “The remaining sidewalk repairs on Colbert Lane will proceed once we have a firm grasp on the developing contractors’ obligations and their scope of work.”
