Police suspect arson after playground equipment is damaged in Sanchez Park fire

The city estimates the damage to cost about $50,000.

The Ormond Beach Police Department is investigating a fire that damaged playground equipment and vinyl fencing at Sanchez Park on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at an estimated cost to the city of Ormond Beach of $50,000. 

According to a press release, officers arrived at the park, located at 329 Sanchez Avenue, at around 7:39 a.m. Ormond Beach firefighters were already on the scene extinguishing the fire, which police believe to have been intentionally set.

The police report details that the park's jungle gym, as well as sections of the vinyl fence surrounding the playground were melted as a result of the fire. A swing and a plastic car were also burnt. Police found transmission fluid. aerosol cans, a pack of cigarettes and a pile of mail at the park.
