Flagler County’s tourism office – Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches – took gold at the 42nd Annual Telly Awards, which “honors excellence in video and television across all screens,” for its video about Flagler’s resiliency.

The submission titled “Resilient – Visit Flagler” was one of two entries to take the coveted gold within the category Non-Broadcast – General Public Relations. The other gold-winning submission was “Climate Jobs New York.”

“We are absolutely thrilled about this honor, especially given the stiff competition we were up against,” said Tourism Director Amy Lukasik. “We set out to create a video about our heart – the supportive community we have here in Flagler – and we thought we captured it. Apparently we weren’t the only ones.”

Cycle Here Media, a St. Augustine video production company with whom the tourism office has had a long-standing business relationship, filmed, produced, and submitted the video in the Telly Awards competition.

The video was released in May 2020 to encourage local residents and visitors alike to support local businesses.

“In the span of five years our local businesses have endured multiple destructive hurricanes, major road construction to repair hurricane damage, and a worldwide pandemic,” said County Administrator Jerry Cameron. “These events have taken a toll on everyone, but we are a resilient community and support each other through even the toughest of times. This video captures the spirit of the citizens of our county.”

The video is available on YouTube.

The Telly Awards competition is judged by more than 200 working industry leaders who make up the Telly Awards Judging Council, according to its website. It received upwards of 12,000 entries from all 50 of the United States, and five continents.

“The 42nd annual Telly Awards received a 15% increase in entries from the previous year,” the release about this year’s competition states. “The growth was driven by a significant rise in remote and virtual productions, with many brands taking to animation for the first time.”

Telly Awards Executive Director Sabrina Dridje complimented the field of entrants the ability to “defy the limitations” of its medium.

“This year’s submissions doubled down on what we already know about the industry. Creativity cannot be stopped,” she said. “Collaboration will always prevail. New ideas and stories will always find a way to break through to an audience.”

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 to honor excellence in local, regional and cable television commercials with non-broadcast video and television programming added soon after. With the recent evolution and rise of digital video (web series, VR, 360 and beyond), the Telly Awards today also reflects and celebrates this exciting new era of the moving image on and offline.
