The city of Ormond Beach will be offering a new program to support entrepreneurs in the community.

Through the Economic Development Department, the city has established a local affiliate for entrepreneurship curriculum with Kauffman FastTrac, a program of the Ewing Kauffman Foundation that provides information, tips, exercises and tools to help aspiring entrepreneurs build their business, according to a press release. City staff has partnered with Volusia/Flagler SCORE Vice President Adrienne Baker, who will host the 10-week program.

"I am thrilled to be able to teach FastTrac and look forward to all of us in class learning from the program and each other," said Baker in the press release. "We all have a lot to share, learn and gain, and to go through this course together will be the first steps to a successful business foundation."

The program, to consist of two 90 minute sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays, will start virtually on April 5 and run through June 9. This initiative forms part of the city's formal commitment to the National League of Cities City Innovation Ecosystem program, where the league and the Ewing Kauffman Foundation asked city leaders to "commit to creating policies, programs, and practices to ensure equitable and inclusive economic growth that supports innovation and entrepreneurship in their community," the press release states. These should be organized around the four pillars of opportunity, funding, knowledge and support, and the city of Ormond Beach chose to focus on knowledge.

"Ormond Beach is a great place for entrepreneurs to bring their business ideas, develop a business plan around them, and ultimately start doing business," said Mayor Bill Partington in the press release. "We want to make sure we provide the resources and support necessary for them to succeed."

Brian Rademacher, city director of economic development, said they are excited to offer the program in the city.

"We hope that in collaborating with SCORE and other organizations involved in small business and entrepreneurial development, this course will provide a framework to support entrepreneurs to start their journey," he said.
