An unmaintained boat ramp on Pamela Parkway will stay open, but the county will place a sign and a wire gate across it to keep vehicles from unintentionally driving into the water.

The boat ramp — too small for motorized boats, but used by paddlers — briefly became a subject of controversy after the county proposed closing it to install a seawall, prompting opposition from residents.

County staff came to the recent resolution after meeting with an attorney representing residents, said Tim Telfer, the county's land manager.

"We are open and willing to listen to the community about issues and concerns," Telfer said.
