Residents continue to press Palm Coast to add pedestrian path on Cimmaron Drive

City Manager Matt Morton said he will discuss the issue with the Florida Department of Transportation at the next quarterly meeting.

Drivers should give cyclists a clearance of at least 3 feet when they share the road, and Cimmaron Drive is too narrow to allow that to happen, according to a few C-section residents who are the latest to ask the city to build a pedestrian path in the area. A dozen other C-section residents have made similar requests in recent city meetings.

According to city staff, Cimmaron Drive is 24 feet wide, which is typical of similar streets in Palm Coast.

Pat Block, a resident of Cimmaron, read to the City Council a statement from her mail carrier, who said that she has observed traffic increase in that area over the past 25 years — and particularly over the past six months. She noted that when she parks her truck in the street to deliver mail, walkers and cyclists have to cross into the other lane.

Another resident, Dennis Berg, said he was almost hit by a delivery truck recently as he was walking on Cimmaron. He, Bonnie Berg and Block displayed a board with a photo illustrating that the road is too narrow.

City Manager Matt Morton said he will discuss the issue with the Florida Department of Transportation at the next quarterly meeting.
