Fourth graders at Belle Terre Elementary try their hands at entrepreneurial gardening

The fourth-grade classes of Melissa Albrecht and Gena Parkison received a $5,000 grant from the Paul B. and Constance D. Hunter Charitable Foundation to fund their Rise and Shine Entrepreneurial Gardening Enterprise. The life cycle of plants is part of the fourth-grade science curriculum, and the garden will serve as a hands-on lab for learning. 

Students will be growing vegetables and herbs that will be used in the Matanzas Culinary Program once the project is in full operation. They will be growing Florida drought-tolerant plants as the project grows which will be used in the agricultural flagship at Indian Trails Middle School. These partnerships will teach our students entrepreneurship skills that they can use as they transition from Classrooms to Careers.
