On Oct. 6, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a carjacking near Kielb Road and State Road 100 in Bunnell. The victim stated he saw the suspect jump into his power company's bucket truck and take off. The victim attempted to grab the steering wheel and was dragged approximately 50 feet before releasing his grip and rolling into a ditch as the vehicle fled. The victim was not seriously hurt.

The victim advised he and his coworkers had their tools in the truck valued at about $3,000. FCSO’s Real Time Crime Center was able to track the location of the stolen vehicle and identify a suspect. FCSO deputies and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office were able to recover the truck abandoned on White Spruce Court in Ormond Beach with approximately $750 of equipment missing.

On Oct. 7, the suspect was located and arrested by VCSO. He told deputies he stole the vehicle because he “did not want to walk all the way back to Volusia County” where he resides. He denied stealing the missing tools but did say he attempted to open one of the locked toolboxes in the bed of the truck.

The suspect has many prior arrests, including grand theft and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
