Political committees led by House Speaker Chris Sprowls, R-Palm Harbor, and incoming House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, combined to raise more than $600,000 in October, according to newly filed finance reports.

The Sprowls committee Floridians for Economic Freedom brought in $460,054 and had about $2.33 million in cash on hand as of Oct. 31, a report posted on the state Division of Elections website said. Among the contributions were $50,000 from Charter Communications, $45,000 from PACs linked to Associated Industries of Florida and $35,000 from TECO Energy.

The Renner committee Conservatives for Principled Leadership raised $152,500 during the month and had about $1.04 million in cash on hand as of Oct. 31. Nearly a third of the October contributions -- $50,000 -- came from Bruce and Diana Rauner of Key Largo. Bruce Rauner is a former Illinois governor. Renner is slated to become House speaker after the November 2022 elections.
