Public Affairs Officer, Flagler Country Sheriff's Office

On Monday, Sept. 6, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Highway Patrol, the Flagler Beach Police Department, and the Bunnell Police Department, will be combining efforts to participate in Operations T.I.D.E.S., a countywide traffic operation focusing on deterring texting while driving, Impaired driving, driving while Distracted or Exhausted, and Speeding. This proactive operation will serve as a reminder to the community that participating in any reckless driving behaviors described above will not be tolerated and all traffic and criminal statutes will be strictly enforced.

Starting Friday, Sept. 3, and through the holiday weekend, the FCSO and surrounding agencies will also be patrolling the roadways of Flagler County in a Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort, which focuses on increased officer presence on Interstate and U.S. Highways across the state during specific high crash periods. In addition, FCSO personnel will focus on reducing impaired driving, serious related crashes, and aggressive driving throughout the holiday weekend.

FCSO will also increase patrols at beach approaches and will provide a highly visible deputy presence on foot and ATV within the parking lots and the beaches. The C.O.P.S. volunteers will be providing additional presence to the patrol unit, reporting suspicious activity, vehicles and persons.

Another goal for this Labor Day weekend is to reduce and prevent crime opportunities through proactive measures. FCSO reminds residents and visitors to do some basic crime prevention strategies:

  • Lock your car doors and hide personal valuables.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, be alert and report any suspicious activity.
  • Do not leave purses/handbags, cell phones, and packages in your vehicle or visible.

The Marine Unit will provide high-visibility patrols on the intra-coastal waterway and canals, monitoring the waterways for boaters under the influence along with unsafe vessel operation.

“We want everyone to have a safe Labor Day weekend and reckless driving or boating behaviors will not be tolerated in Flagler County,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “If you plan to drink, plan to have a sober driver or captain. I want to thank all of the agencies partnering with us to conduct these operations and look forward to working together this weekend and with the community’s help, we can all enjoy a safe Labor Day weekend. Remember, drive sober or get pulled over!”
