John Walsh’s 2022 primary election endorsements

Ormond Beach Commission Zone 1

I endorse Lori Tolland for city of Ormond Beach Commission.

Tolland is a strong leader. Starts at home with her family — a large family at that.

And while raising her seven children, she works in health care and has served on community boards, including Leisure Services and the Planning Board.

I agree with her on the following issues:

Development and growth is not out of control: The city of Ormond Beach has increased by only 5,000 residents in the last 10 years. And as a city commissioner, her primary job is to uphold and enforce current land use codes.
Parks and Recreation: Her actions speak loudly. She has been on the Leisure Services Board for years and also gets her hands dirty, as she did being involved with the native plant project at Vader Park as a member of the Garden Club of the Halifax.
Continue to support the Downtown CRA: The downtown corridor is one of the city’s best assets. This downtown area is unique and a draw for locals and tourists. It is a huge economic engine for Ormond Beach. And the work is not done — there are still many improvements to enhance and preserve this special district. CRAs are not always successful, but this one is. I agree: Continue to redevelop the downtown district.

Volusia County District 4

I endorse Rob Littleton for Volusia County Council.

I met Littleton in 2016, as many of us did, when he first ran for City Commission.

Littleton has exceeded my expectations as commissioner in his three terms of service.

What impresses me most is his consistent approach, process, to governance. In business, good process trumps talent.

Littleton’s approach to taxes is SMART: sensible, measurable, accountable, reachable and timely.

Using this consistent approach to financial issues will ensure he keeps his emotions out of the decision-making process.
