The Flagler County Veterans Advisory Council and Flagler Veterans Day Parade Committee recently recognized Matt Crews and his wife, Melissa, owner-operators of Woody's BBQ at 99 Flagler Plaza Drive in Palm Coast.

Matt Crews donated over 500 meals in support of the picnic that followed the Flagler County Veterans Day events.

Veterans, family members and the community enjoyed barbequed chicken, beans, coleslaw and iced tea. There were plenty of hotdogs to go around, too.

It was the first time in at least 60 years that there was a Veterans Day parade in Flagler County, and Matt Crews, a lifelong resident of the county, expressed a desire to contribute to the festivities. Nobody left hungry; everybody left satisfied.

The Crews were presented with a special plaque to commemorate their generosity, and Randy Stapleford, representing Congressman Michael Waltz’s office, presented Matt Crews with a custom challenge coin from the congressman.

Matt Crews felt especially honored to be involved because he has family members who served in the military, including both of his grandfathers who served in World War II, one in the Marines and one in the Army Air Corps.

The Crews have owned Woody's since 1998 and credit the people of Flagler County for the restaurant’s success.
