Bank of America chose Halifax Urban Ministries as the 2023 Neighborhood Champion awardee for its work advancing economic mobility and building up underserved neighborhoods in East Central Florida, a press release announced on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
Through this multi-year grant funding and leadership training for the nonprofit’s leadership, HUM's programs and services will be able to expand and reach more individuals in need.
HUM provides emergency assistance and housing to individuals who have become homeless. Through the program, HUM will receive the opportunity to participate in virtual leadership training delivered by experts in the nonprofit sector on topics like human capital management, increasing financial sustainability and storytelling, and a $50,000 grant over two years.
This funding will support the nonprofit’s Bridge of Hope Mobile Pantry that delivers hot meals to over 200 homeless individuals every day, 365 days of the year.
“We are so excited to receive this grant from Bank of America to help Halifax Urban Ministries to expand our food distribution addressing food insecurity in the 31114 zip code,” HUM Executive Director Buck James said.
Five nonprofits have been selected as Neighborhood Champions in East Central Florida since 2019, with the bank investing $250,000 into these local nonprofits.
