Halifax Health will host the Mega Colon at its Daytona Beach hospital campus on Tuesday, March 5, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for members of the public to tour.

This free event will be held at 303 N. Clyde Morris Blvd. in the France Tower parking lot. The Mega Colon exhibit provides visitors with the interactive, educational experience of stepping through a large-scale model of the human colon. Through examples of various colon issues, attendees will see first-hand the problems that can develop within the human colon. From hemorrhoids to colon cancer, this exhibit shows it all.

“We are proud to provide this free educational opportunity for our community during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month,” said Gina Lawrence, gastrointestinal cancer patient navigator at Halifax Health. “With cases of colorectal cancer in people under 55 increasing, it’s important that we continue to bring awareness to our community about colorectal cancer screenings. When screening finds colorectal cancer early, survival rates can be as high as 90 percent,” said Lawrence.

The tours are free and lead by Halifax Health team members. The event will include a free physician lecture, titled “How to Keep Your Colon Healthy,” by gastroenterologist Ammar Hemaidan, M.D., from 5-6:30 p.m. on March 5 at Halifax Health, 303 N. Clyde Morris Blvd., France Tower meeting room E. There is no cost to attend but reservations are required by calling 386-425-6VIP or RSVP online at halifaxhealth.org/towertalks.
