PCFD battalion chief celebrates 30 years on the force

Battalion Chief Randy Holmes helped direct operations during the 1998 wildfires in Palm Coast and, in 2011, served as lead officer during the White Eagle brush fires in Seminole Woods.

Palm Coast Fire Department Battalion Chief Randy Holmes celebrated 30 years of service with the PCFD in 2023.

Holmes has served an impressive career with the PCFD, including successfully directing operations during the 1998 wildfires to safeguard homes in the F Section, a press release from the city said. In 2011, Holmes also played a pivotal role as the lead officer during the White Eagle brush fires in Seminole Woods.

Holmes graduated from Flagler Palm Coast High School in 1985 and served as a volunteer firefighter in the Bunnell Volunteer Fire Department before joining the PCFD in 1993 as a firefighter-EMT, the press release said. He rose through the ranks, becoming a lieutenant in 1998, a Captain of Fire Inspection in 2018 and Battalion Chief of Prevention in October 2022.

“After 25 exemplary years in operations mainly as a company officer and five years of leadership in Fire Prevention, Chief Holmes continues a fantastic career,” Fire Chief Kyle Berryhill said. “Randy always leads with both expertise and heart and serves as a mentor to countless PCFD officers and firefighters.”
