Driving while drowsy

1:28 a.m. — 800 block of Airport Road, Ormond Beach

DUI. Police arrested a 60-year-old Holly Hill man who crashed against a tree, many hours after taking a muscle relaxer.

The reporting officer found the man resting against the passenger side of his mustang upon arriving at the scene. The man attempted to stand up, according to the report, but fell back against the car once police approached. The officer noted he was very unsteady on his feet throughout their conversation.

The man told police that he had been driving from his home to his workplace and that he'd had a muscle relaxer around 9 a.m. the day before prior to having a few slices of pepperoni pizza for breakfast. He said he didn't eat or drink anything else for the rest of the day.

After failing a series of field sobriety exercises, police searched his car and found prescription drugs as well as one empty Four Loco can and three full cans of the alcohol — though the man passed his breath test.

He was taken to jail.

Grand theft. A 34-year-old Ormond Beach man was arrested after he stole a sheriff's office trailer, which had been parked near the intersection of State Road 40 and U.S. Highway 17.

The trailer was found attached to a pickup truck and a traffic stop was conducted at State Road 11 and Clifton Cemetery Road in DeLeon Springs, according to a police report. Police spoke with the driver, who told a deputy "he was in trouble because he had taken the trailer," the report notes.

The man said he was only borrowing the trailer and planned to return it once he was done with it.

He was taken to jail.
