A Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured while on his way to work when a vehicle changed lanes in front of him on March 5.

Deputy First Class Benjamin Stamps — a member of the FCSO Motors Unit — was driving on his FCSO motorcycle on Interstate 95 in St. Johns County when a vehicle “made an improper land change” in front of him, a FCSO Facebook post read. Stamps was hit and ejected from the motorcycle.

The deputy was transported to Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville as a trauma alert, but was alert and conscious when Sheriff Rick Staly visited him in the emergency room, the post said. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Stamps has several serious injuries and will require surgery on his elbows, but the FCSO post said Stamps is expected to make a full recovery and be released from the hospital in a few days.

This is a developing story.
