October home sales improve

Home sales in the greater Daytona Beach area recovered in October after hurricane season caused the market to stumble in September, according to statistics compiled by Ron Wysocarski, broker and CEO of Wyse Home Team Realty in Port Orange.

For the month ending Oct. 31, the Daytona Beach Multiple Listing Service reported that 381 existing single-family homes were sold with a median home sales price of $217,500. That amounts to an 18.6% increase in sales and a 3.5% climb in median sales prices, year over year.

Median sales prices for condos were 9.5% lower than a year ago, possibly caused by the lingering effects of Hurricane Irma, Wysocarski said. There were 93 condo sales in October with a median sales price of $190,000. The sales total was roughly the same as in October of last year, when condo sales were suffering the effects of Hurricane Matthew.
