These principals and teachers take school attendance seriously and have all sorts of fun in the process.
Osceola Elementary School Principal Kevin Flassig carried the trophy high as he reached the crest of the Granada Bridge on Wednesday, April 5. Since January, he and Ormond Beach Elementary Principal Tucker Harris have been swapping the trophy back and forth, always at the top of the bridge.
The friendly competition is an attendance challenge. Whichever school has the highest increase for the month takes the trophy back to their school. Osceola had a 71% increase in their attendance from February to March, but it wasn’t enough – Ormond Beach increased by 1.54%.
“We have to get together and you have to tell me how you did that,” Flassig said.
The competition is all about the kids and getting them to attend school regularly. It was also in good fun and as Mayor Bill Partington presented the trophy to Harris congratulations rang out from the Osceola staff.
