On Tuesday, Oct. 25, Boy Scout Troop 468 celebrated its five recent Eagle Scouts, the highest rank and honor in scouting.
Each of the scouts had been part of the program for several years, first starting off as cub scouts, according to an email by Joanna Voss, BSA Troop 568 committee chair. They each did service projects, participated in extracurricular activities in school and all completed an Eagle project, where they were tasked with leading a team.
The troop's new Eagle Scouts are Treneir Washington, Jacob Grant, Jacob Williams, Will Cross and Jackson Williams.
Washington, 18, has been Scouting for 11 years. For his Eagle project, he built three benches for the Windows in the Forest section at the Museum of Arts and Sciences. A student at Mainland High School, Washington is both in band and on the track team. During the summers, he volunteers at St. Andrew Catholic School in Orlando, as well as has participated in serving spaghetti dinners with his fellow Boy Scouts, Scouting for Food, and beach cleanups.
Grant, 17, has been Scouting for 11 years as well. For his Eagle project, he built nine stone fire pits for YMCA Camp Winona. He attends Seabreeze High School and volunteers in beach cleanups as well as Scouting for Food.
Jacob Williams, 17, has been Scouting for nine years. For his Eagle project, he planned and built a 40-foot long, 6-foot wide boardwalk to the water at YMCA Camp Winona to help mitigate erosion, as well as improve accessibility and safety. Jacob Williams, a Seabreeze student, is currently dual enrolled at Daytona State College. He participates in Scouting for Food and beach cleanups for community service.
Cross, 17, is a student at Seabreeze High School. He has been Scouting for seven years. For his Eagle project, he built eight picnic tables for YMCA Camp Winona. He volunteers at St. Brendan's Catholic Church's food bank, as a helper during Ormond Memorial Art Museum's family art night and serves as a summer camp counselor.
Jackson Williams, 16, has been in Scouting for 6 years. For his Eagle project, he painted and cleaned the former weight room at he Ormond Beach Family YMCA to accommodate a new children's area.
