Daytona Beach Making Strides event raises $250,000 for breast cancer research

This was the 14th year Politis and Matovina have sponsored the event.

About 11,000 people formed a sea of pink across the International Speedway Bridge in Daytona Beach for the 26th-annual American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event.

"The east bound side of the bridge was closed to traffic and filled with walkers of all ages dressed in shades of pink to show support for their loved ones and bring awareness for breast cancer research," Chrissy Dobies, event and promotional coordinator, wrote in an email. "There were parents pulling children in wagons, a pink firetruck and even a pink Cadillac."

The law firm Politis and Matovina has been sponsoring the event since 2006.

"We walk together as a team each year so that no one facing breast cancer ever has to walk alone," Dobies wrote. "We are there to support the survivors, the caregivers and family members and to walk in honor of all of those that have lost their battle to breast cancer."

The event raised more than $250,000, with more being raised through Dec. 31.
