The organization's goal is to raise $10,000 from the ice cream social and silent auction, which was held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Ice cream, games, cake, face painting and balloon animals filled Prince of Peace Catholic Church's fellowship hall on Sunday, Sept. 24 as Family Renew Community hosted its 28th annual ice cream social and silent auction to benefit homeless families in Volusia County.
Family Renew Community Development Director Denise O'Toole Kelly said the organization's goal is to raise $10,000 or more from the event. Having already reached about $8,500 from local sponsors before the event, she said she's confident they'll meet or exceed their goal from ticket and concession sales at the fundraiser.
She said all the proceeds help pay for 32 apartments for local homeless families, as well as provide resources for parents to be able to support their children in a place of their own.
Last year, Kelly said Family Renew raised about $8,000.
