FPL gave the local nonprofit an energy makeover for free.
The Work Oriented Rehabilitation Center received a free energy makeover from Florida Power and Light Co. on Sept. 20 with the help of local contractors.
The FPL team worked to help the nonprofit WORC save a total of $2,700 annually on their bill.
WORC offers programs and services for people with disabilities, including residential services, adult basic education and adult day training, all designed to expand their opportunities to be contributing members of society and to live independent lives.
The improvements FPL made included the following:
- Upgrades to the air conditioning system to make it more energy efficient
- Installation of programmable thermostats and equipment that will allow the facility to take part in FPL’s On Call program for small businesses
- With On Call, WORC will receive a credit on its electric bills in return for agreeing to let FPL turn off the air conditioning system for short periods of time when absolutely necessary
