Land of making and believing: Ormond Memorial Art Museum hosts Mermaid Party Camp

'How come we never see mermaids in the water?' one camper asked.

The sold-out Mermaid Party Camp gave Ormond Beach girls a chance to make beach bags, bracelets and wooden wall hangings, led this month by Kristin Heron, Michelle Davidson and Amber Green, at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum. The girls were thrilled when, Heron said, "a live mermaid showed up near the pond in the gardens!"

"How come we never see mermaids in the water?" one camper asked the mermaid in a quiet moment.

"We're very secretive," Mermaid Traci said. "We know how to hide, we know how to be quick. And we know how to blend in because we can have our people legs."
