The church's Backyard Bible Camp featured visual representations and surf lessons.
Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church associate pastor Leigh Jones started scribbling sins on her arm with a black marker. She asked a handful of local kids gathered around the picnic table at Bicentennial Park for examples during the church's Backyard Bible Camp on Saturday, Aug. 18.
"Mean talk," one kid said.
"Going against God," another voiced.
To add to the visual demonstration, Leigh Jones then asked her son, Ben Jones, to pour water over her arm, but it didn't wash the "sins" away. Later on during the camp, Leigh used a more powerful remover to clean off her arm — representing what God does with our sins, she told the children.
To combine a back-to-school bash with the camp, Ormond Beach families gathered at the park for a Bible study and surf lessons. Leigh Jones said that the other three summer camp days were held in a church member's backyard — hence the name. But they decided to host this one in "God's backyard," she said.
