Mistakes are expected to be made during spring game football. Seabreeze head coach Troy Coke understands this, which is why he said he won’t allow Seabreeze’s 27-6 loss to Flagler Palm Coast on Friday, May 19, to overshadow his team’s progress.
While the Sandcrabs’ offense is still looking for consistency, the defense gave Seabreeze a glimpse of hope through a number of big plays that kept the first half scoreless until the final two minutes.
The Sandcrabs held the Bulldogs to multiple turnover on downs and recorded multiple sacks on both of FPC’s quarterbacks.
Sandcrabs also forced turnovers, including Jalen Miranda, who scored the Sandcrabs’ only touchdown, when he blocked a pass, caught it midstride and then returned it for a touchdown. His teammate Isaac Mott also caught an interception, and Zach McNeely forced a Bulldog fumble at the one-yard line.
“Our defense played well most of the night and got a lot of stops in tough positions,” Coke said. “We just made too many mistakes on offense and special teams to put the D in too many bad spots.”
A botched punt gave the Bulldogs the ball at the Sandcrabs’ 20-yard line. A high snap on the punt gave the Bulldogs the ball at the one-yard line, and an interception also gave the Bulldogs the ball in Sandcrabs’ territory.
Going forward, The Sandcrabs will compete in the University of Central Florida’s 7-on-7 tournament on Saturday, June 3, and team workouts will begin on the following Monday.
