About 150 cyclists participated in the Daytona Beach Police Department's first-ever 51-mile "Tour De Force 9/11 Memorial Ride" on Saturday, Sept. 12, resulting in over $4,000 raised to benefit local law enforcement charities.
The ride began at 8:30 a.m. from the DBPD headquarters at 129 Valor Blvd, and continued on. through New Smyrna Beach, Port Orange, South Daytona, beachside Daytona Beach, Holly Hill and Ormond Beach. Among the law enforcement officials participating were Ormond Beach Police Chief Jesse Godfrey and Sgt. Michelle Willis, Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri and Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood. They were joined by NASCAR driver Scott Lagassee Jr, spokesperson for Alert Today Florida, a bicycle and pedestrian safety campaign.
