The Seabreeze Sandcrabs boys' baseball team head to Jackie Robinson Ballpark Tuesday, March 16 following their win against the Mainland Buccaneers.
The Seabreeze Sandcrabs’ boys’ baseball team dominated the diamond with a 12-2 win over the Mainland Buccaneers Monday, March 15 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
Top of the first inning, Sandcrabs’ short stop, Zac Sager, stopped a ground ball hit by Buccaneer Gabe Bridges and whipped it to first baseman Devon Spicer for the first out of the game. Sager followed it up with a walk on his first at bat, two stolen bases and the first run of the game after a wild pitch by Mainland. A double by Spicer, helped Seabreeze start the game with a 2-0 lead going into the second inning.
Mainland’s short stop, Jonathan Campbell, answered with a triple in the third inning driving Ty Moak in for the run. The pair strike again in top of the fifth when fielder’s choice gives Moak the score and the only runs for the Buccaneers.
Offensively, Seabreeze was unstoppable with seven players scoring in five out of six innings played. Three of the Sandcrabs had multiple runs: catcher Canyon Brown with three, Spicer with three and second baseman Mason Boice with two. Left fielder Ethan Cleary hit a home run in the bottom of the fourth, resulting in an RBI that drove Trevor Presswood in ahead of him for a two run total.
Seabreeze pitcher, Ethan Gilbert, had 15 first pitch strikes and 10 strikeouts throughout five innings. He held Mainland to two runs while the Sandcrabs’ fielders remained errorless the entire six innings. Thomas Davidson wrapped it up by pitching one strikeout and two groundouts the last inning. The 12-2 win gives Seabreeze a current record of 6-4 for the season.
The Seabreeze Sandcrabs head to Jackie Robinson Ballpark to face the Spruce Creek Hawks Tuesday, March 16 in a non-district game.
