Former Mainland basketball players Johnny Brown and Rodney Rhoden recently moved on to the next leg of their respective basketball journeys. Brown, the 6-foot-8 stretch forward, is headed to Jacksonville, where he'll play for Florida State College. Rhoden is headed across the country to Long Beach, California, where the athletic 6-foot-5 guard will play for Long Beach State. The duo led the Buccaneers to a 27-2 record during the 2018-19 season.
City to host co-ed basketball clinic
The city of Ormond Beach' Leisure Services department is hosting a co-ed basketball clinic from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on July 29 through Aug. 1 at the Nova Community Center, located at 440 N. Nova Road. The camp is open to kids ages 9-14 (as of April 30). Cost is $60 for Ormond Beach residents and $88 for non-residents.
Registration is now open. Register at the Leisure Services Office at 399 N. U.S. 1 in Ormond Beach. For more information, call 386-676-3250. The office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Fridays.
College commitments, visits and offers
- Mainland basketball's Jordan Sears announced that he recently received a scholarship offer from hometown team Bethune-Cookman University. Sears, a speedy point guard who led the Buccaneers is scoring in his junior year last season, is entering his second year with Mainland after transferring from Atlantic the year prior.
