Volusia Civic Ballet's 'The Nutcracker' comes to the Peabody Auditorium Dec. 3-4

Set to the classical music of Tchaikovsky, the ballet features a cast of over 80 performers, with choreography produced by 12 choreographers.

Volusia Civic Ballet will present “The Nutcracker” ballet for three performances on Saturday, Dec. 3 and on Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Peabody Auditorium, located at 600 Auditorium Blvd.

Set to the classical music of Tchaikovsky, the ballet features a cast of over 80 performers, with choreography produced by 12 choreographers, according to a press release.

"The Nutcracker" tells the story of a young girl named Clara, performed by Amelia Palmer, who receives a magical nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve from her magician godmother Frau Drosselmeyer, played by Valerie Betts. As she drifts asleep, Clara witnesses a battle between an army of mice led by the Mouse Queen, played by Samantha Jolley, and toy soldiers, led by the Nutcracker, played by Harry Robart. The two will go on a journey where they will encounter characters like the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, played by guest artists Melissa Gelfin De-Poli and Rafael Quenedit Castro from the Cincinnati Ballet during the Saturday evening and Sunday matinee shows.

A condensed narrated "Family Series" show is offered on Saturday, Dec 3, suitable for audiences with special needs, all levels of mobility and young children. The Children’s Sugar Plum Tea, featuring appearances from the ballet's characters, will be offered on Saturday and Sunday, one hour prior to the show.
