The Florida League of Cities awarded Ormond Beach Mayor Bill Partington with its Home Rule Hero award on July 27 to recognize his advocacy efforts for the city.

The Home Rule Hero acknowledges the extra time and travel a municipal official takes to meet with legislators, promote their respective cities agendas and the common interests cities share as part of the Florida League of Cities.

“It’s worth it,” Partington said. “Just the fact that you build the relationships and have the ability to help the city and help the legislators understand the concerns that Ormond Beach has.”

The award was first created in 2009. Partington was one of two municipal officials to take home the award during the Volusia League of Cities meeting. The other was Deland Mayor Robert Apgar.
